The District Line
03:51
|
|||
I ride the District Line
Feet up and drinking wine
I’m on it every day
While others look away
Next station, folks, what a thrill
Is Tower Hill
I travel for fun
I rise before the sun
Make ready for the trip
Have a cuppa and a nip
Last station, ma’am and sir
Is Upminster
In light or darkness
In the lovely London rain
In sun or thunder
Oh, it’s a brilliant train
Just a giant moving corridor
Stand clear of the closing doors, yeah
From Barking to Parson’s Green
Kew Gardens to Becontree
Whitechapel, South Kensington
Hornchurch or Wimbledon
If you want to get around
Go underground
In light or darkness
In the lovely London rain
In sun or thunder
Oh, it’s a brilliant train
Just a giant moving corridor
Stand clear of the closing doors, yeah
I’ll ride till the night-time gloom
Ride till the day of doom
I’ll ride till I’m just a shell
Ride till the gates of hell
These travels won’t be complete
Till I’m just bones on this seat

Brick Lane
03:58
|
|||
Sunday, one day prowling the East End
Thought that I’d have a look around
You know, so much goes down out at Brick Lane
Man, how I dig this grotty town
I needed some cash for a retail splash, yeah
They said, "my friend, there’s the ATM"
I thought it looked a little bit dodgy
But working machines are often scarred
I did the dance like every time before
And then it ate my only card
And charged me a hundred quid for what it did, man
I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do
I’ll buy me a hammer
Go down to Brick Lane
And I’ll pound that ATM
Bash it again, again and again
No sympathy, no help for me
Those bastards they hung me out to dry
They said there’s nothing they could do for me
No, they don’t care if I live or die
Now my final few pence have gone on offense and
So at this stage, I’ll go with rage
I’ve bought me a hammer
I’m here in Brick Lane
And I’ll pound that ATM
Bash it again, again and again
It feels so good (again and again)
It feels so good (again and again)
It feels so good (again and again)
It feels so good (again and again)
It feels so good (again and again)

Boris and the Rusalka
04:34
|
|||
Deep in the woods where no one roams
There stands a pond like in olden poems
Its waters shimmer all the day long
There sounds a distant song
Stumbling into this sylvan glade
Simple Boris worn and frayed
He found a tree and rested there when
A voice filled the air
Handsome noble
I’ve a secret
I’ll tell you
Just come to
The water’s edge
Boris was poor but not so dumb
He knew where the song was coming from
The Rusalka, fair and blond, she
Beckoned from the pond
Handsome noble
I’ve a secret
I’ll tell you
Just come to
The water’s edge
So then he rose and did advance
Straight towards the water like in a trance
Slow and solemn like a bridegroom
While she sang her tune
Handsome noble
Won’t you join me?
Sorrow’s daughter
Trapped in water
For all eternity
She said to the approaching Boris: “My secret is that I died in this pond many years ago. A man was my undoing. And I am condemned to drown any who happens by. Come to me.”
She lunged at him, but clever Boris dropped his ruse and grabbed her arm, pulling with all of his might. The Rusalka came out of the water and onto the land. With a wail of surprise, the beautiful maid immediately dissolved into green slime. A glimmer caught Boris’ eye and he picked a large blood-red ruby out of her remains. Long years of cursed lonely sadness had formed the stone within her.
Boris left the glade with the valuable gem and traveled day and night to the nearest town. There, he became a wealthy merchant, married a beautiful countess and wisely advised the tsar on a variety of important matters.

Have you ever felt
Like you’ve been guided
To a land where it’s all
Quite one-sided
Well, perhaps you have
Perhaps not, by the way
Have you ever felt
Suddenly furious
At something trivial
Nothing too serious
How quickly did your knickers get
Twisted taut, tell me
Do you feel the outrage? (Do you feel it?)
Can you feel the outrage? (Can you feel it?)
Look at that front page
Oh say, have you seen?
Well, it originates from
Someplace I guess we’ll say
A kind of instant automatic machine
It doesn’t care about
Your deepest desires
Seething anger is
All it requires
Your wrath’s so useful
And versatile, yes it is
It doesn’t care if
You’re in a great hurry
Only seconds till you’re all
Sound and fury
You’re sure that the enemy
Is dumb and hostile, so
Do you feel the outrage? (Do you feel it?)
Can you feel the outrage? (Can you feel it?)
Look at that front page
Oh say, have you seen?
Well, it originates from
Someplace I guess we’ll say
A kind of instant automatic machine
Where does all this end
How far does it run?
I don’t see a way
Once it’s begun
Why use puny words
When you’ve got a gun? Everyone
Get in on all the fun, so
Do you feel the outrage? (Do you feel it?)
Can you feel the outrage? (Can you feel it?)
Look at that front page
Oh say, have you seen?
Well, it originates from
Someplace I guess we’ll say
A kind of instant automatic machine

Take That Hill
04:14
|
|||
War is easy, war’s delightful, satisfying, too
If you’re scared, well, that’s your problem
Something’s wrong with you, I tell ya
It’s like a football game
Well, except that the other side
Is often in flames
From time to time, they call upon us to do some dirty work
Overthrow a sovereign nation
Or go plain berserk, I tell ya
Now’s that time again
Just a place to storm and conquer
So let’s go, men
We’ll pave the golden road to glory
You bet we will
Don’t stop till you’re at the top
We’ll take that hill
There’s no hesitation at all. There’s no second thoughts
We don’t agonize about this and our morals
Aren’t tied in square knots
So the mission’s clear
We’re here to cause destruction
We’re the tip of the spear
We’ll pave the golden road to glory
You bet we will
Don’t stop till you’re at the top
We’ll take that hill
They were ready for us that day and our attack
Their defense it was ferocious and they drove us back
I tell ya,
They had us on the run
And we retreated in the pouring rain
We lost, they won
As we retreated in the pouring rain
I threw away my gun

It's Only Freedom
04:01
|
|||
Fear is the source from which
All troubles stem
They get much worse once you
Give in to them
You’re seeing phantoms dancing round
In broad daylight
Of course things get out of hand
In the dark of night
They seem to grow and increase in size
Well, you might go and do something quite unwise - uh-huh
You can spread the toxic thoughts from your
Broken brain
Know who’s at fault
And who should take the blame
Let them know that there’s a
Partisan, evil threat
Soon you’ll make even
Normally sane folks sweat
You don’t present proof, so no one will find
That all this stuff is just in your mind - cuckoo!
So call congress
Tell them you’re horrified
Call congress
The righteous stand on your side
It’s time for law and order
It’s time to close the border
A strict state is what we oughta become
Hey, it’s only freedom
Your ideas may be
Completely nuts
If people call you out
You just kick their butts
This is the shaky temple
Madness has bought and built
When slinging mud, dip down deep
In the silt
Tell the masses where you stand
And soon they’ll be eating straight out of your hand - that’s right
So call congress
Give those bureaucrats hell
Call congress
Scream, shout and maybe yell
There is no resolution
Without a revolution
Public executions, lots more to come
Hey, it’s only freedom
So kill congress
Go on, take them all out
Kill congress
No conscience, also no doubt
Unite all seething factions
It’s time for drastic actions
It’s tyranny that you’ve just begun
Hey, it was only freedom

Proshu Pan
04:19
|
|||
The Iron Curtain’s down
Now for a long time
Poland is worth a stop
The Tatras are worth a climb
I guess that
Krakow is beautiful
Or so they tell me
Gdansk is nautical
It’s on the Baltic Sea
You bet
Warsaw took quite a hit
In the spring of 44
And they’ve rebuilt it since
It’s not in ruins, babe
Any more
If you’ve
Got some
Kind of crazy plan
Well, these words will
Start things
Just say
Proshu pan
Weird stuff will happen there
If you let it
Unless you’re blackout drunk
You won’t forget it, kid
Oh, no
If you’ve
Got some
Kind of crazy plan
Well, these words will
Start things
Just say
Proshu pan
Proshu pan
Proshu pan
Proshu pan
Proshu pan

Steam Pimp
03:40
|
|||
I float by your window quite often
In my amazing blimp
We should get acquainted, my darling
They know me as the steam pimp
My airship has many exquisite appointments
And cutting-edge hydraulics
I’ve entertained the crowned heads of Europe
And assorted alcoholics
So climb aboard, it’s perfectly safe, dear
We’ll float upon the clouds
You’re flying with the steam pimp

Superstar SPQR
03:41
|
|||
Well, we’ve crossed the Rubicon
So I guess this game is on
We’re marching on to Rome
Where we call home
At issue here is our frayed Republic
And projected power
But there is a time for action
And this looks to be the hour
So each step draws us more and more close
To a fate that none of us knows
If we’re plodding to our doom
Well, then that will happen soon
We follow
Where great Caesar goes
And people, he alone
Drags history by the nose
And his deeds and conduct
Seem to please the gods
As Fortuna goes
I really like our odds
You can bet your bottom dinar
On Superstar SPQR
Most history’s made
By those who swing a blade
Yes well, Caesar showed us all
As he conquered most of Gaul
He took it to the tribes
As the Gallic Wars describes
He used a mix of force, deception
And intimidation
When they chose to go to war
Well, we killed them by the score
So many victories attained
By the workings of Caesar’s brain
Now the Gauls are not a threat
And don’t you forget:
We follow
Where great Caesar goes
And people, he alone
Drags history by the nose
And his deeds and conduct
Seem to please the gods
As Fortuna goes
I really like our odds
You can bet your bottom dinar
On Superstar SPQR
Most history’s made
By those who swing a blade
Now as Rome comes into view
I’m sure of this thing we do
The Republic’s in distress
And the system’s a mess
Cause both the Senate and the people
Need a firmer hand
Grant the power to one man
And put Caesar in command
He’s more like a tribune or praetor
And not like some evil dictator
Call him anything
But just don’t call him a king

Friedrichstrasse
03:52
|
|||
I’ve got the microfilm
Of the factory
The police might know
To look for me
I’m caught up
Just by chance
I met a girl who said that she was from France
The streets are wet and dark
Not a soul in sight
All the clubs are closed
Nothing to do at night
Has this been
A big mistake?
Someone’s bound to report me
How long will this-
Take me to the west
Because the truest heart beats in my chest
I grew to believe
They were fooling us
This regime is wrong
In everything it does
She caught my eye
With her smile
Oh Monique, what I’ve done does not get a trial
I have yet to learn
To overcome my fears
All the streets have eyes
And every wall has ears
My body has
Begun to shake
Someone’s bound to report me
How long will this-
Take me to the west
Because the freest heart beats in my chest
I can call it off
I can turn around
Yes, I’ll burn this film
But wait a sound
Too dark to see
Who could it be?
Once they’re here I’ll know, thank God, I’ll know finally
